An outdoor kitchen is one of the highest-value upgrades you can make to a Phoenix backyard. When it's designed and built right, it becomes the part of the house people actually use. When it's not, it's expensive equipment in the way.
How an outdoor kitchen is built: Outdoor kitchens start with a structural frame sized for the appliances and counter layout. Rough-in plumbing, gas, and electrical are run before anything is enclosed — this is the step that has to be done first. Finish materials — countertops, cladding, backsplash — are installed over the frame. Appliances are set, connected, and tested. A permitted gas or electrical inspection is completed before the kitchen is signed off, and the surrounding hardscape is tied in as the final step.
Citiscapes designs and builds full outdoor kitchens for homeowners across Scottsdale, Phoenix, and Paradise Valley. Our builds go beyond a grill island — a full outdoor kitchen typically includes a built-in grill, side burners, refrigeration, storage, a countertop work area, and bar seating, all integrated into a design that fits the rest of the backyard.
We handle the entire project in-house and with licensed trades: structural framing, gas and electrical rough-in, plumbing, finish work, appliance installation, and hardscape integration. One point of contact instead of four, and a finished space that looks like it was planned that way — because it was.
Material selection gets taken seriously on kitchen projects. Countertops need to handle heat, UV, spills, and regular prep work. Cladding needs to hold up through monsoon season and 115-degree summer days without fading or cracking. We use materials we know perform here — porcelain, natural stone, marine-grade stainless, and properly sealed masonry.
If you're going to invest in an outdoor kitchen, it should be built to last and designed to actually get used. That's what Citiscapes builds.

Our backyard was nothing but dirt, weeds, and dog crap for years. I was so embarrassed by it. In fact, I tried to avoid going outside so I wouldn't have to look at it. I really wanted a Gazebo and a small shed, but we needed to get concrete slabs first. So I got some quotes for extending the patio and add room for a shed, and to put in a large 12x12 slab for my Gazebo. I was hesitant to reach out to Citiscapes because the job was so small and I was afraid they would be out of my price range. But their reviews were all great, which made me feel more comfortable about going with them over a smaller company. Joey totally understood my vision. He never made me feel like the job was "too small" and I was actually quite surprised that his quote was in line with what I had budgeted. He even priced out things that I wanted to get done in the future. I was so impressed with their work and Joey's professionalism, I reached out to them again for "phase 2" which involved more concrete, installing irrigation, outdoor tile, and a retaining wall for my plants. Again, it was right on budget! I now have the backyard of my dreams and plan to use Citiscapes again when we are ready to do the front yard. You can see the before and after photos below.
